Wheels...

Today, with very little help from Mommy, Asa learned how to ride a bike. I've never seen a child master a two-wheeler so quickly! He was so proud of himself and wants to spend all his time outside practicing his newly acquired skill!

Swimming in March & Locs Update...

The boys have been spending a lot of time in the pool. I caught a quick picture and you can kind of see how long Asa's locs have gotten; stretched out, they are 3-4 inches.

Compared to this picture I took when we first started them late last summer...

He still loves them and can't wait until they are long enough to pull back with a rubber band. Even with the swimming, they are staying soft - he never has any type of breakage. We wash with conditioner once a week and mist with Palmer's Olive Oil Spray when I damp-towel rub them every other day (or so). The towel-rub method is all we've ever used and they are so uniform and neatly loc'd, even up to the scalp.

More Asa Quotes:

Asa: It's dangerous to run in the road 'cause a car could squash you flat like a scarecrow.
Me: Scarecrows are flat?
Asa: Yes, if they get squashed by a car.
Asa: Mom, are you going to wear that?
Me: (in what I thought was a cute jogging suit) Yes, why?
Asa: Because I'll be embarrassed.
Me: WHY?
Asa: Because it looks like pajammies and people are going to laugh at you.
"Asa, what do you want for Christmas?"
"An iPad."

Four Years Ago...

I heard God speak more clearly that I ever have in my life:

You must start now.

We had been planning to adopt from Haiti since 2000 and started gathering agency information in early 2006, but something was stopping us. It just hadn't been the right time. In late January of 2007, I stood in my foyer and yelled to my husband who was upstairs in his office, "It's time. We really have to start the adoption... now." He agreed and we didn't look back. We picked an agency in early February and this blog began.

I can't believe it's been four years. Crazy.

Hair!

Just another update on Asa Mack's awesome hair. He's had his locs for over two months, and they really are growing out nicely. They're long enough to lay down pretty flat in the back, but the top is spikey and cute. He still loves them and gets especially excited when he watches football with daddy and sees all the big guys with long locs. We took these pictures when he was fresh out of the bath... squeaky-clean!
